A Fresh Look at Depression That Hasn't Improved

When depression persists despite treatment, the next step is not always simply adding another medication. A careful reassessment can identify why previous approaches may not have worked and what options deserve consideration next.

Diagnostic Reassessment A diagnosis should be confirmed, not assumed. We use standardized tools to measure how depression affects your life, and check for medical conditions that can look like depression.
Prior Treatments Reviewed We look at what you have already tried: the dose, how long you took it, how consistently, and any side effects. This shows what really happened, not just what was prescribed.
Careful Prescribing We choose medication thoughtfully and look for ways to keep your plan as simple as possible, with fewer pills, fewer side effects, and less to manage day to day.
Clear Scope of Care You will always know what we provide and when we recommend another specialist or service, so nothing falls through the cracks.
Is a Reassessment Right for You?

Still struggling despite treatment?

A comprehensive reassessment may help if:

  • Two or more antidepressant trials have not brought enough relief
  • Side effects have limited the treatments you could continue
  • Symptoms improved but never fully resolved
  • The diagnosis has never felt quite right
  • Medical, sleep, or substance factors have not been fully explored
  • You want a second opinion before considering advanced options
Not sure if this fits? You don’t need to have a diagnosis to reach out. We can help you determine the best next step.

The Reassessment — 01

Starting Again With the Full Picture

We begin by taking a careful look at your whole story, not just your current diagnosis. We review your symptoms and how they have changed over time, the medications and therapy you have tried, how they worked, and any side effects. We also look at sleep, alcohol and other substance use, and physical health conditions that can affect mood.

Depression often comes with other concerns, such as anxiety, OCD, ADHD, the effects of trauma, or mood swings that point to bipolar disorder. Because these can change which treatment works best, our physicians check for them from the start.

What a reassessment can change

Step Two

Building a Treatment Plan That Makes Sense

Once we understand the full picture, we build a plan around you. Depending on your needs, that may mean fine-tuning what you are already taking, trying a different medication, adding a second treatment that helps the first one work better, or tracking your progress more closely. We also coordinate with your therapist and other doctors so everyone is working toward the same goals.

Step Three

Complex Situations Deserve Extra Care

Some people have more than one diagnosis, react strongly to medications, take many medications at once, or find that depression makes daily life very difficult. For these patients, we carefully review what is helping, what is not, and whether the plan can be simplified, with fewer medications, fewer side effects, and less to manage. Careful prescribing in complex situations is where a physician’s training matters most.

Still struggling despite treatment? A comprehensive psychiatric reassessment can help clarify what has been tried, what may have been missed, and what options remain.

Better Care Can Mean Fewer Medications

We carefully review what is helping, what is not, and whether your plan can be simplified, so you take only what you need and nothing more.

Scope of Care

Advanced treatment options

If a treatment such as TMS, ECT, ketamine/esketamine, or another specialty intervention is indicated but not provided directly by our practice, we may recommend consultation with an appropriate external program.

Looking for a second opinion? Bring your history. We will review the diagnosis, the treatments already tried, and what deserves consideration next.

Important

Safety and level of care

Outpatient telepsychiatry is not a substitute for emergency or crisis services. During evaluation and treatment, we assess safety and whether a different level of care may be necessary.
